Hate Crimes

There are many laws on our books that are a waste of ink. Among them is the idea that we need laws for so-called hate crimes. Let’s take one example. Murder is murder so what makes it any worse if a white person kills a black (or insert minority of choice) person during the commission of a crime or just because the person was black? The net result is the same. Someone was killed and it is a crime.

I think the answer is 'White Guilt'. This is a disease that liberals are trying to infect us with because they feel that white people (and America) are responsible for all of the ills of the world.

So we now have hate crimes legislation that gives harsher sentences for those convicted of killing a person of another race, creed or religion if one of those three issues was the reason for the killing (or any other crime). But my question is, still – isn’t murder bad regardless? Why is that we need to make the punishment tougher on someone just because they killed a black, or a Jew, or a Muslim, or a yellow person, or a brown person, or a red person, or a person that has chosen a homosexual lifestyle, or any of the other categories that qualify? Again, it’s white guilt.

And why is it that if a black person kills a white person for any reason, no one calls it a hate crime? The two young, white coeds from Auburn and U of North Carolina that were killed recently were both killed by blacks (at least that is what we are being told). Why aren’t those being investigated as hate crimes? As far as I know it’s never been mentioned. But remember the Duke rape scandal that never was? It was all a lie and because the girl was black, everyone had a field day with the white college boys. How come Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson haven’t apologized for convicting those boys before any of the evidence was in?

Only whites seem to be able to commit hate crimes. One of the black youths arrested for the murder of the UNC coed is also being accused of killing an Asian Duke grad student. Why isn’t that a hate crime?

The answer is: HYPOCRISY!

Irish Tiramisu-tini
¼ c espresso
4 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
1/3 c mascarpone
2 scoops vanilla, chocolate or coffee ice cream
2-4 ice cubes
2 soft ladyfinger cookies sliced lengthwise, or shortbread wafers
Chocolate-hazelnut spread
Chocolate syrup
Blend espresso, Irish Cream, ice cream, mascarpone and ice until smooth. Drizzle chocolate syrup along inside edges of chilled martini glass in a spiral shape (or, just rim the glass with chocolate syrup). Pour mixture from blender into glass. Spread layer of chocolate-hazelnut spread in between ladyfingers or sandwich between shortbread cookies. Dip cookies in cocktail.

The white guilt thing is the instrument with which the Race Baiters have effectively emasculated white males. I have no idea why white men should feel guilty about things that occurred many years ago and that no living being witnessed first hand.

I have heard all I care to hear about slavery and how blacks in bondage "built this country". I say bull shit to that. The people who were brought here as slaves were sold into slavery by their own brethren and were transported here largly by English and Dutch slave traders.

My family owned slaves in North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama and Georgia. I feel no personal responsibility for that and see it as a product of the times. I own no one reparations or special treatment because of something that happened long ago. I owe no one an apology.

As to the subject of "hate crimes" I agree with you completely. It is a way to get around the double jeopardy law. Plain and simple.

I'm a Black woman and I say you definitely have a valid point. Laws should work for everyone across the board. The flip side of this is the laws don't always work for us the same way either. Our jails are full of black young men who were penalized white white young men were simply slapped on the wrist and sent home. We will not have a completely equal society until people take the color out of deciding someone's fate. As you said, a crime is a crime and the punishment should be the same.

I love your blog and the martini recipes. I'm going to try them!! :-)

I doubt Chuck will read this but I wish he would understand that no one is asking him or any other white American for apology nor do they blame him. But many Americans simply do not get that what was done has deep roots and psychological affects that were passed along through generations. It wasn't something that would just disappear overnight. It's like expecting an abused child to grow up and not pass along those psychological pains and fears to their children. We cry sensitive issue and you don't understand why. A little understanding goes a long way. It wasn't you or your relatives found hanging from a tree for no other reason than the color of their skin and this was not back in slavery days but in my father's time. How can that not still affect people?

No one is asking for an apology just some understanding as to why the pain is still there.

IntruderDude-

I'm surprised no one else nibbled on the bait on this hook. I stopped by to check out your Martini recipes. I generally enjoy a good "classic" Martini and I see a few recipes here that I'd like to try. I'm glad we agree on the Martini's because I take exception to some of your remarks regarding "Hate Crime." While I understand your emotion, I don't follow your logic or agree with the accuracy of your post.

Don't get me wrong, this is a friendly reply.

You Say:

"Murder is murder so what makes it any worse if a white person kills a black (or insert minority of choice)"

Yes, murder is murder but our legal system has traditionally operated on the precedent that there should be varying degrees of punishment based on the circumstances of the murder. For example: When the murder is premeditated, the guilty party generally gets a greater sentence. When a murder is committed during the course of a robbery - That usually dictates stiffer penalties. Ever hear of First degree, Second degree, or felony/capital murder? What about aggravated assault and manslaughter? Why do these crimes have different penalties? If we get rid of the hate crimes, should we eliminate all these classes as well? And you're ex-military, so to keep things simple should we get rid of the entire class of war crimes too?

I'm feeling like you missed the whole point of what a hate crime is. Just because a crime is perpetrated on a person of another race, religion, sexual persuasion, ethnicity, nationality or whatever - that in an of itself doesn't make it a hate crime. A hate crime exists when any of the above is the motivation for the crime or fuels the crime.

You asked:

"And why is it that if a black person kills a white person for any reason, no one calls it a hate crime?"

The answer to that is in your question. Because the killing can't be determined to be racially motivated.

When you're at war and kill a bunch of people we don't call it murder, we call it war. When we're at war and try to exterminate an entire race of people we don't call that war, we call it genocide.
Just because a white person kills a Jewish person doesn't alone make it a hate crime but if they kill the person because he is Jewish, then it becomes a hate crime. If a Black person kills another person in the course of a robbery, it's not a hate crime - It's first degree murder in most states.

I think you get my point so I don't really need to go into your analogy of the two young, white coeds from Auburn and U of North Carolina. They haven't established that these crimes were racially motivated.

And lastly, you comment:

"Only whites seem to be able to commit hate crimes."

Simply do a search for "Black on White" hate crimes and you'll prove that statement inaccurate. Think back to the 2006 Long Beach, Halloween attack. A group of black teens attacked three girls. A horrible hate crime and prosecuted as such.

This is an anonymous post - I'm not looking for a debate just sharing some perspective!

Anonymous - Thanks for stopping by and I am glad you like martinis, too.

As with most posts, it takes more space and time than available to cover all the things I would like to in a post. Hate crimes is a subject worthy of many posts or one so long that no one would read it.

Yes, there are different classifications within a crime (ie, murder - 1st, 2nd degree, etc). What I don't agree with is that what we call 'hate crimes' are necessary. If one murders a person of another race (for this example) because of that then the current classifications of murder are adequate to handle the situation.

I'm sure we could each come up with examples of things that fit our perspective. I just think that if one goes and kills another because of race/creed/religion or any other reason that would classify it as a hate crime then it is easily addressed by the current statutes.

Anyway, thanks for your point of view. I welcome anyone that crafts well thought out opinions/commentary. I hope you will return again and chime in when able and take a recipe anyway.
